AS AN INTRODUCTION TO PLASTER MOLD MAKING WE WERE TO CHOOSE AN ITEM AND CREATE A TWO OR THREE PART MOLD. A TWO PART MOLD WAS CREATED TO REPRODUCE THREE COPIES OF THE PIPE THAT WOULD LATER BE PLACED INTO THE PACKAGING SHOWN. AFTER EXPLORATION AND TESTING OF VARIOUS MATERIALS THE FINAL THREE DUPLICATES WERE MADE OF BLACK AND WHITE WAX.
THE PIPE CASING IS MADE OF LAYERED BASS WOOD. ALONG WITH THE USE OF ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR AND LASER CUTTING TECHNOLOGY I CUT AND HOLLOWED OUT EIGHT 1/4” BASS WOOD PIECES. THESE LAYERS WERE THEN ADHERED AND SANDED TO CREATE STRIATIONS IN THE WOOD. WITH THE OBJECTIVE TO USE ONLY ONE MATERIAL, THE SLIDING LID WAS CREATED USING SIMILAR LAYERING TECHNIQUES.
